Doom-Inspired Dream

Last night, I had one of those dreams that feels too vivid and intricate to forget—a thrilling blend of video game nostalgia, adventure, and a dash of existential terror. It felt like I was transported to a bizarre hybrid of Earth and a Doom video game, complete with its iconic weapons, eerie atmosphere, and lurking monsters.

Setting the Scene

The dream began as an exploration mission. I was in an unfamiliar part of Earth, though it didn’t quite feel like our planet. The landscape was rugged and ominous, with shadows dancing in the periphery—monsters lingering just out of sight. Yet, despite their presence, I felt no fear. Instead, I had a sense of determination and curiosity. I wasn’t alone; a couple of companions joined me as we navigated the terrain.

Equipped for Battle

As if plucked straight from Doom’s arsenal, I had access to every weapon imaginable, including the legendary BFG. Shooting it was an experience in itself. I never quite got the aim right, but firing it was undeniably exhilarating. We weren’t focused on defeating the monsters or "winning" the game. Our goal was exploration—to uncover secrets and see all that the dream world had to offer.

The Puzzle and the Gate

At one point, we stumbled upon what looked like a puzzle, though in my mind, it felt more like a ritual. Completing it would open a massive gate leading to the moon. The puzzles were intricate, each requiring collaboration and creativity. When we finally activated the gate, it felt like a monumental achievement. Stepping through, we were transported to a desolate lunar landscape, shrouded in mystery and teeming with possibilities.

A Hidden World

On the moon, we discovered an unexpected twist. By avoiding the end boss—a massive, looming creature—we could access a hidden area. This secret realm turned out to be another complete world, a surreal space being fought over by the US military. The military had established a base, but it had been overrun by monsters. Intrigued, we decided to investigate. The thrill of exploration kept us moving forward, even as the dream world grew darker and more unpredictable.

The Parachute Incident

Just as the excitement peaked, the dream took a sharp turn. Suddenly, I found myself in a 36-story building, clutching a tiny 3x3-inch parachute. Despite its absurd size, I prepared to jump, believing it would carry me safely to the ground. As expected, it didn’t work. I plummeted, the ground rushing up at me… and landed unharmed. The laws of dream physics are fascinating.

A Terrifying Conclusion

After landing, I was inexplicably back on the top of the building, now in daylight. The scene shifted from thrilling to terrifying as I edged closer to the ledge. Heights have always been a personal fear, and in the dream, the pull toward the edge was almost magnetic. My heart raced as I tried to resist the invisible force. It was a stark contrast to the confidence I felt earlier in the dream. The fear was visceral, reminding me of the dread I sometimes feel even on my own back porch.

Reflections

The dream ended on this unsettling note, but the journey itself was unforgettable. From solving puzzles and wielding the BFG to uncovering hidden worlds and confronting my fear of heights, it was a rollercoaster of emotions. Despite the nerve-wracking finale, it was one of those dreams that sticks with you—an entertaining and surreal adventure that lingers just beneath the surface of waking life.
